Nexus 7: 8GB Out, 32GB In?

The Google Play Store doesn’t seem to be selling the 8GB model of the Nexus 7 any more.  It has been reverted back to “coming soon.”  Many (myself included) are speculating that this is in preparation for the 32GB model which will likely launch on October 29th at the Google event.  The 32GB model is no secret as it has been leaked by various retailers and was even received by one customer in Japan by mistake.

The internal storage was an issue from the very beginning.  8GB just didn’t seem sufficient for a tablet, regardless of the low price.  And with all the competition that is starting to build up (the new Acer, the Kindle series, the iPad mini, etc.) this is a very smart move and, in my opinion, necessary move for Google and Asus to make in order to remain highly competitive in the low-cost tablet wars.

Despite the increase in storage, it is not expected that the prices for the Nexus 7 will change, which is great.  The 16GB model is expected to take that $209 price while the 32GB takes that higher $259 price tag.

I feel like I keep saying this but…. just a few days away and we’ll know!
