Is HTC Releasing A Ubuntu Tablet?

Ok, so this news is a little strange. Surprises are hard to come by in this business these days since new product information and pics are often leaked ahead of time whether intentional or not.

We have been expecting HTC to show off its 2024 lineup of smartphones at an event being held in New York tomorrow morning, with the HTC One taking centre stage. We seem to already know about the phone’s design, hardware specs, and we have even gained glimpses at what to expect with Sense 5.0, so it would be very strange for the company to have somehow hidden a Ubuntu tablet from the blogosphere.

The reason for this sudden speculation is that over at Ubuntu’s website, there is a header displaying a countdown matching up to exactly when HTC’s event is supposed to start tomorrow morning. As you can see from a screenshot below, the header reads, “Tick, tock, tablet time!”

So, you may be thinking that simply because HTC has an event starting at 10am tomorrow, this doesn’t necessarily mean the Ubuntu tablet release has anything to do with it. Well, normally I would agree with you, but HTCGlobal released an image of the display HTC is planning to show in its event tomorrow, depicting several devices being covered up. Upon inspecting the size of each device, it is quite obvious that they are all phones, except for the one closest to the camera which is definitely more tablet-sized.

Is this the Ubuntu tablet? Colour me curious.
