Rumour: LG Is Working On A Nexus 5 Afterall – Plus LG G2 To Launch Aug 20 In Korea

Nexus 5

An interesting report has come forth this wonderful Wednesday.  First the less exciting news.  According to the report, the LG G2 will begin its launch on August 20th in Korea.  The phone is expected to be announced on August 7 in New York so the 20th seems like a reasonable launch date for the device.  Chances are that the American launch will take place a couple weeks later but that’s just my own speculation.

Now to the good stuff.  The same report has stated that LG is indeed working on the next Nexus device and it will be based off of the LG G2.  On the one hand, this contradicts a report from the end of May stating that LG will NOT be making the Nexus 5.  However, PhoneArena points out that this latest report actually lines up very well with one of the first reports about the Nexus 5 which was at that time codenamed Megalodon.  That first report stated that the Nexus 5 would feature a 5.2″ 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 processor, and 3GB of RAM, all of which are expected to show up on the G2 (the RAM is up in the air right now however).

This latest report also states that the phone will be available beginning in October and will launch with Google’s latest iteration of Android, Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

I’m super skeptical about this rumour as the apparent denial regarding LG making the Nexus 5 came directly from one of LG’s top guys whereas, like most rumours, these reports come from “sources” and “insiders.”  I’m really hoping that this is true as I’d love to see a new Nexus device this year as well as Key Lime Pie!
