HTC One Goes Through The Torture Chamber

If your anything like me the instant you set your sights on a new phone, or a new anything expensive, your first thought is “sure it is nice but can it withstand daily abuse like steak knives and mallets?” well the folks at PhoneBuff are willing to terrorize devices and find out for you. In this particular instalment they took the HTC One to task to see if the device can withstand the life and rigours of the travelling Key, Knife and Mallet salesperson. The screen holds up very well to all of the tests, resisting keys (my pick as the most important as I don’t tend to keep open blades in my pocket), knives and being hit with a rubber mallet. The body seems relatively scratch resistant although that is a relative term as generally anything that is used as much as a smart phone that can be scratched will be scratched at some point. I was pretty excited to see the ‘stab test’ but the person in the video forgot to do it.

My overall impression would be that the basic rules of responsible expensive electronics ownership apply, get a case, keep it away from sharp objects, keep it away from children and adults prone to tantrums and if you want to hit something with a mallet find a rock.
