HTC One Delays Take Toll On HTC’s Finances
HTC has had a busy first quarter to the year, all of the buzz around the HTC One its new flagship device, the recent announcement of Facebook Home being paired with the HTC First, along with a new bolder marketing strategy, it looks like everything is on the up and up for the company.
Until you look at its finances for the first quarter which were the worst ever, not the spilling food on your nice new shirt kind of ‘this is the worst’. More like a 98% drop in net income compared to the year before kind of worst ever. HTC reported a net income of $2.8 million for the first quarter of this year which doesn’t sound bad until you compare it to the $173 million it posted last year in the same quarter.
This of course can be attributed to the delay of the HTC One that missed its March launch due to manufacturing delays. Before you start a charity to ensure that HTC execs don’t suffer unduly at the hands of manufacturing delays, keep in mind they have some important launches coming up. The HTC First will be launching in the near future with Facebook Home as well as the HTC One that the company is relying on to bring it back to the front of the mobile market should start shipping to customers April 19th and bring some balance to HTC’s finances.
