Essential Phone Will Receive Android 8.0 Oreo Soon
Good news for users of the Essential Phone. The handset comes with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, but in a few months the device will get the bump up to Android 8.0 Oreo.
An Essential official confirmed this piece of information on Reddit during an AMA with Andy Rubin and other Essential executives.
We were told the phone will be upgraded to the latest version of Android “in the next month or two”. But we can’t help but be a little skeptical.
Essential previously promised their first handset would start shipping within 30 days after launch. However, the company missed the June 30 date and eventually started shipping the phone towards the end of August.
The same might happen in the case of the Android 8.0 Oreo update, although we certainly hope this won’t be the case.
During the same AMA, Essential also revealed two more accessories for the phone are also expected to make a debut in the upcoming months. We’re talking about the charging dock which was first showed off during the phone’s official announcement back in May. The second accessory is a high-end audio one which will bring a high-quality DAC, as well as a 3.5mm headset jack. How much will they cost? We’re yet to find that out.
