The Essential Phone Is Almost Impossible to Repair
The Essential Phone is a gorgeous device which just started shipping out to those who pre-ordered it. But have you ever wondered – what would happen if you drop this beautiful piece of gadgetry and then it would need fixing? Sadly, we have some bad news for you.
The folks at iFixit performed a teardown of the device and what they found, well it won’t be bringing owners any joy. Basically, the phone scored a lousy 1 out of 10 on the repairability scale.
That’s due to a number of factors – for example the invisible seams and the huge amount of adhesive makes any attempt at repairing the device pretty futile, as it will end up doing more harm than good.
On top of that, the USB-C is attached directly to the motherboard and hence the Essential Phone does not come with a 3.5mm headphone jack, it’s bound to be overused and hence wear out faster. The selfie camera is part of the same module as the earpiece speaker and the battery is not easily accessible either.
So be careful how you treat your new and shiny Essential Phone, as you might not be able to repair it if something bad ends up happening to it.
If you haven’t purchased one just yet, would you now given that you know it has such a low repairability score?
