Even a hurricane couldn’t stop Nexus news

So, wow… that’s a helluva storm that’s brewing and hitting the east coast.  Hope people are okay.

I applaud Google’s decision to postpone the event… but it seems like folks were just too ready to hear about it that the news still got out.

We started seeing in some cases that the Play Store started allowing for Magazine subscriptions automatically.

Then some European countries started listing the device already (as they weren’t affected by the storm), and as time came along, the full story was released regardless that the event wasn’t held.  Here’s what’s happened.

We now have a full nexus family of devices.  A 4, a 7 and a 10 (and a Q, if you still want to count it).

Devices

(our database for phones & tablets has been updated)

Play Store

Nexus 4

Made by LG, this simply named device is quite the beast in terms of features.

  • 4.7″ (1280×768) w/ Gorilla Glass 2
  • 1.5GHz quad-core Kraits
  • 2GB RAM
  • NFC
  • Wireless charging
  • 8MP camera with 1.3MP front facing
  • 4.2 (see comments on the left)

At the price of $310 for an 8GB phone or $360 for the 16GB it’s very attractive price point.  Probably the best dollar/power.

See the pictures below.

There’s a lot of flack of it over the manufacturer being LG, so there’s some concern, but from the early impressions from those who’ve used said, just forget that.

Also, no LTE is a bit of a burn, especially as I’ve only just now started to get used to it. But there is apparently good reason why the LTE is missing.

Go check it out on the Play Store.

Also, the wireless charging is pretty neat.  Something that really attracted me to the old Pre, and you can get as a hack for the Note 2 and S3.

Magazines

As of this morning we can now access the Magazine section of the play store.

Nexus 10

Built by Samsung, this is an upgrade to the Nexus 7 device, although you’ll notice it’s ‘standard’ layout is in landscape mode, whereas the 7 tended to favour the portrait mode.

Specs on this are a good, but only a dual core?  Sure it’s an Exynos… the display resolution is amazing!

  • 10.05″ (2560×1600) with Gorilla Glass 2
  • 1.7GHz Dual Core Exynos A15
  • 2GB RAM
  • 5MP camera with a 2MP front facing camera
  • NFC

It comes in a 16GB ($410) and a 32GB ($510) version. Plus with teh tablet version of 4.2 it will have multi user settings.

Can’t say I’m a fan of the same interface that the N7 also had (ie. just like a phone’s), but that’s me.  Apparently there also is a reason for that.

Movies

We can now also purchase movies, not just rent them!

Nexus 7

The Nexus 7 is no longer available as an 8GB version.  But the 16GB is now $210.

They’ve now offered a 32GB for $260, and a soon to be released 3G version at $310

No music yet…
