Sony aimed for compact-camera quality, pairing the G Lens with a large 1/2.3-type sensor and the BIONZ for mobile image engine. It offers 3x clear image zoom. The bundled camera apps were:

  • Social live: broadcast live to Facebook and see comments on screen.
  • Info-eye: visual search for items such as books or wine.

  • AR effect: animated overlays on pictures.

Screen, build and battery

TRILUMINOS and X-Reality for mobile come from Sony’s BRAVIA TVs, for wider colour and sharper video. The body is a one-piece aluminium frame with tempered glass on both sides. Battery STAMINA Mode turns off unneeded functions to save power.

Media and bonuses

Sony cited more than 22 million songs on WALKMAN through Music Unlimited and over 150,000 movies and series through Video Unlimited. The launch offer covered five movies, a pass for a summer blockbuster, a two-month Music Unlimited trial and ten PlayStation Mobile games. PlayMemories Online added an All Sync feature to auto-upload photos. ClearAudio+ tuned sound automatically.
