Metal Body For The Galaxy S5 Confirmed?
One of the ongoing criticisms of the Samsung Galaxy series has always been, and still is, the build materials. Up to this point, Samsung has opted for plastic on, more or less, all of their devices. While plastic has it’s benefits (light weight, fairly durable, etc.), it doesn’t have the “premium” feel that many want when purchasing a $600+ device.
We’ve been hearing lots of rumours that Samsung will switch things up with the Galaxy S5 and finally opt for metal for the construction of the body rather than plastic and now we may have confirmation (or as close to confirmation as we can get at this point). According to a Taiwanese economics publication, Taiwanese company Catcher has secured the job to produce the Galaxy S5 metal frame.
If the name Catcher sounds familiar, it’s because that back in September we shared a story that indicated that Catcher and Samsung were in the midst of negotiations that would see Catcher produce anywhere from 10-30 million chassis’ for an upcoming Samsung device. So it appears the negotiations are over and production could start this month!
In case you’re unfamiliar with the Catcher, they are responsible for manufacturing the chassis’ for devices like the HTC One, iPad, and MacBook Air. So if this deal has indeed gone through, it seems that we’re in good hands.
Just a side note: the picture above isn’t necessarily a preview of the S5. It could be, but its origins are still a little bit of a mystery.
