Rumours Of A Metal Clad Galaxy S5 Are Rekindled
Each year Samsung sells millions of their flagship Galaxy S devices and each year the device is met with one consistent criticism, the plastic body. This past year many thought Samsung was finally going to ditch the plastic in favour of metal for the flagship S4 but, as we all know, that didn’t happen. Well don’t lose hope as new reports are indicating that the S5 may get that metal chassis that many are looking for.
The story, which comes from Taipei Times, indicates that Samsung and Catcher, a manufacturing company that has provided the metal chassis for devices like the iPad, MacBook Air, and HTC One, are close to reaching a deal that will see Catcher manufacturing anywhere from 10-30 million chassis for a “premium Galaxy” device that is set to launch in “the first half of next year.” In addition, Samsung may be opening their own manufacturing plant in Gumi (south east of Seoul) to produce magnesium and aluminium casings as well.
While these reports don’t outrightly state that Samsung will be using metal for their next Galaxy S phone, they definitely seem to hint that Samsung is going in that direction, especially if the order to Catcher is indeed in the 10-30 million range. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more about the next Galaxy S.
