Meet The Xiaomi Mi3: High End Phone, Low End Price

The Chinese tech companies have been really catching my attention lately.  In fact, I was very close to having someone pick up at Xiamoi Mi2 for me this past summer but had them hold off because I heard the Xiamoi Mi3 was coming.  Well the Mi3 is now here and it’s the low price beast everyone expected it to be.  Here are the specs:

  • 5″ IPS 1080p Display
  • Tegra 4/Snapdragon 800 Processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB/64GB Internal Storage
  • 13MP Camera (made by Sony)
  • 2MP Front Facing Camera
  • 3050 mAh Battery

Not only does this phone have killer specs but the design, in my opinion, is spot on.  The body is crafted out of magnesium alloy and is very reminiscent of the Lumia line (which I do find quite attractive).  Despite all the good I’ve already covered, this phone gets even better.  The Xiaomi Mi3 is listed at $327 USD for the 16GB model and $408 for the 32GB model.

Pretty sweet isn’t it?  Well it may get even better.  Up to this point, the Xiamoi phones have only been sold in the Asian markets.  However, Hugo Barra, former VP over at Google, has just joined up with Xiamoi as their head of international business development.  Basically his job is to help the company make it on the global scale and, frankly, if they launch this phone world wide, they’ll be well on their way.

I’m definitely considering picking one of these up sooner rather than later.  I just need to find someone who’s taking a trip back to Asia.  What do you guys think?  Planning on jumping on the Xiaomi train?
