The Pixel 2 Might Not Be Getting the Snapdragon 836 After All
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are some of the most anticipated flagships which are expected to launch this fall. But if you were excited that the two devices will take advantage of an improved Snapdragon 835, dubbed by the rumour mill the Snapdragon 836 then you’re bound to get disappointed.
According to a source talking to the Android Police, Qualcomm has no plans of releasing a Snapdragon 836 processor. The chipset doesn’t exist, although it’s quite possible a slightly faster version of the Snapdragon 835 might be made available this year. It wouldn’t be the first time Qualcomm did something like this. For example, the 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801AB was soon followed by the 2.5GHZ Snapdragon 801AC.
We can’t be sure the current source is accurate, so you should take this piece of information with a grain of salt until we get an official confirmation.
However, a recent FCC listing reveled the Pixel 2 will indeed carry a Snapdragon 835 and not a Snapdragon 836 on board. So it appears the Pixel 2’s fate has been sealed. Or maybe not. Serial leakster Evan Blass seem to think otherwise.
Re: SD836, I haven’t heard anything further since my initial tweet, and since the source has proven accurate time after time, I stand by it.

Qualcomm is expected to launch other chipsets in 2024, although it’s not likely for a high-end one to be among them. But then again, who knows?
