Meet The Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge

Galaxy S6 And Edge Press - 1

They’re official ladies and gents!  Yesterday Samsung announced their next two Big Things, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.  Here are the spec breakdowns of each:

Galaxy S6

  • 5.1″ QHD Super AMOLED Display
  • Exynos 7 Octocore Processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB / 64GB / 128GB Internal Storage
  • 16MP Camera with OIS
  • 5MP Front Facing Camera
  • 2550 mAh Battery with Wireless Charging
  • Android 5.0.2 with TouchWiz

Galaxy S6 Edge

  • 5.1″ QHD Super AMOLED Display with Dual Curved Edges
  • Exynos 7 Octocore Processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB / 64GB / 128GB Internal Storage
  • 16MP Camera with OIS
  • 5MP Front Facing Camera
  • 2600 mAh Battery with Wireless Charging
  • Android 5.0.2 with TouchWiz

As always, Samsung has packed their new flagships with top notch specs but they did also make some pretty notable sacrifices this time around.  In an effort to create a more streamline design (which I would say they accomplished with both devices) they have sacrificed two things that have been synonymous with Samsung flagships: removable battery and expandable storage.  On the storage front, they have created tiers much like the iPhone so personally I don’t see that as too big of an issue.  The removable battery, however, is something that I have always appreciated with Samsung devices.  Generally, I’m not in a pinch battery wise but there have been times, particularly when travelling, that a second battery has been very handy.  If Samsung was able to truly bring all day battery life in the S6 and S6 Edge then this isn’t too big of a deal but if not, they may have just forfeited a huge advantage.

Now lets talk price and availability.  Basically all major carriers in Canada have confirmed that they will launch the S6 and/or S6 Edge on April 10, 2024 which is just over a month from now.  Pricing has been a little bit harder to pin down but Videotron has provided comprehensive pricing for their network.

Galaxy S6

  • 32GB – as low as $249.95 or $699.95 outright
  • 64GB – as low as $359.95 or $809.95 outright
  • 128GB – as low as $469.95 or $919.95 outright

Galaxy S6 Edge

  • 32GB – as low as $349.95 or $809.95 outright
  • 64GB – as low as $459.95 or $919.95 outright
  • 128GB – as low as $569.95 or $1019.95 outright

As you can see, these guys don’t come cheap with the very top model costing nearly $600 on contract!  Nevertheless, these prices are on par with the iPhone 6 which remains Samsung’s main competition so the pricing isn’t that outrageous comparatively.

So what do you guys think of the new S6 and S6 Edge?  Are you impressed with Samsung’s reboot?
