It looks like from now until MWC we’re going to be flooded with rumours about upcoming phones. And it makes sense. MWC is likely going to be the venue in which many of the manufacturers will introduce their new and shiny new toys for all the world to see.
Well here’s another rumour that’s been circulating for the last couple of days. It looks like Samsung will indeed be using the Exynos 5 Octo in their next Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices. When the processor was first announced at CES, we all kind of assumed that this would be the case but there is some evidence behind this now.
In terms of the Galaxy Note III, a unknown Samsung source had “unofficially” mentioned that the next generation Note would be powered by the 8 core chip. On top of that it would feature a massive 6.3″ display. With something like that you really could do away with your tablet all together. Hopefully Samsung has some new battery tech to throw in the mix because that screen alone is going to be a power hog.
The Galaxy S IV was not mentioned by that unknown rep when talking about the future of the Exynos 5 Octo, howevever, a mysterious device has made its way onto the AnTuTu benchmark reportedly with that 8 core chip on board. The device name is the i9500, which follows in line with all the previous generation Galaxy S devices.
One last bit of news regarding Samsung’s amazing new chip. Reports are circulating that while at CES, Samsung was in discussions with several Chinese manufacturers about providing them with chips for their own smartphones. As many of you know, Samsung used to supply chips for Apple, which brought in a good sum of money for Samsung. However, that relationship has continually deteriorated and Apple is now looking elsewhere for chips. So adding some new partners makes perfect sense and, in my opinion, these Chinese companies are going to take off in the next year or two so Samsung could have an amazingly profitable partnership in hand.
