When Will An Android Tablet Come to Canada?

With the launch of Apple’s iPad in early April, the internet has been bombarded with iPad news. We know that other alternatives will be launched soon such as the HP Slate and the JooJoo. But it’s going to get even more interesting as an Android OS tablet is rumoured to be ‘coming soon’.

Confirmed According to the New York Times:

Eric E. Schmidt, chief executive of Google, told friends at a recent party in Los Angeles about the new device, which would exclusively run the Android operating system. People with direct knowledge of the project — who did not want to be named because they said they were unauthorized to speak publicly about the device — said the company had been experimenting in “stealth mode” with a few publishers to explore delivery of books, magazines and other content on a tablet.

Given Google’s close relationship with HTC, I wouldn’t be surprised if they already had a tablet in the works. All they would have to do is clone the Google Nexus One model to the ‘Android tablet’ and they would be good to go. Maybe add a camera, USB ports, and continue to develop the Android Market and a viable alternative to the iPad could very well emerge.

With Canada having to wait for the iPhone, iPad, Nexus One, and Milestone, expect some more waiting once the Android tablet goes live in the USA.
