Is An Androidbook On The Way?

Androidbook

Google isn’t new to the laptop market by any means.  They’ve had their Chrome powered Chromebook available for a few years and have finally made them available in Canada as well.  And even though Chromebook sales are slow, that apparently isn’t stopping Google from bringing another product to the market.

According to a report coming out of DigiTimes, an Androidbook could be coming to market in Q3 of this year.  Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like, an Android based laptop.  In some ways this isn’t a surprise since the head of the Chrome team, Sundar Pichai, is now leading up the Android team as well.  Crossover was expected, however, many were expecting a merge between Chrome OS and Android rather than a new product in the Androidbook.

This is just a rumour at this point but it’s an interesting one nonetheless.  It should also be noted that, to some degree, Android Notebooks already do exist in the form of the Asus Transformer and Slider.  Both of these are essentially Notebooks running Android and that’s what I pictured as soon as I heard about this rumour.

What do you guys think?  Is a Android Notebook necessary?  Would you buy one?  Or is this maybe a April fools joke a day late?  Chime in below.
