Top Android Apps Used: Reader Poll Results
Why the poll was run
Nielsen had released a report saying Facebook was the most used app on Android, not counting the Market. The site asked its readers to describe their own phone usage to see if the results matched.
How readers answered
- Facebook came close to the top spot.
- Maps edged it out.
- Gmail was left out of the discussion, since it is a given on Android.
- Google+ was still modest, tied with Talk and below Search.
Other apps readers named
Readers added apps that were not in the list: Weather Network, Google Reader, Go SMS, SwiftKey X, Trillian, Yahoo Messenger, Enhanced Email, Geocaching and Aldiko. Google Reader was named five times, which made it more popular than YouTube in this group.
Status today
These results are a snapshot of early Android habits. Several of the services mentioned, such as Google Reader, have since been shut down.
