This past week’s #patentfun [multi-touch / MS earns a ton off of Android / …and more]
I’m really liking to see where all this patent fun is going… however saddened that it’s happening and that it’s accelerating it’s pace.
So, here’s this past week’s rundown:
- Apple not awarded the “multi-touch” trademark. After they have been fighting for this battle for some time, the decision is that the term multi-touch is too ‘generic’ for it to be awarded a specific patent
- T-Mobile steps in to help Verizon in their case to stop the Apple v. Samsung battle. THEN a judge not only agrees to hear their case, it denies Apple the right to respond [they had requested to give their side of the story]. Maybe this is the start of somebody telling Apple to cool their jets and get back to work.
- The ITC is now looking into Apple due to HTC now bringing about a potential suite. Some of these may be due to the patents that Google gave to HTC for their battles.
- Microsoft is now collecting a royalty agreement from Samsung – meaning $15 from each handset sold now goes to the MS group. All said now, it appears that Ballmer et. al. will be raking in $444 MILLION DOLLARS a year from Android handsets alone.
Did I miss anything? Things are heating up!
Oh, and here’s my shameless plug for more space!
