The Playstation Phone Leaked
Talks of a Playstation Phone have been around even before the original PSP dropped in 2024. Wouldn’t it be great to have a phone that is also a handheld gaming system? Sure, you could argue that current smartphone platforms already offer a wide array of games at highly attractive prices but to the hardcore gamer, those are just time killers.
Back in August, Engadget reported that the Playstation Phone was coming. This time around, they have pictures of a prototype Playstation Phone with more details and they assure us that’s it’s 100% real. I think your level of intrest in this scoop really depends on whether you want to call it a fake and move on or to give the possibility a chance. Personally, I think Engadget has a great track record for anything they’ve had this much confidence in and Editor-in-chief Joshua Topolsky is credible enough not to run something like this just for the pageviews.
Let’s talk specs. 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, screen size range: 3.7 to 4.1 inches. No analog sticks to be found here. Instead a touchpad in the center which is supposed to be multitouch. Likely running Android 3.0 along with a custom Sony marketplace to buy games from. There is also the Sony Ericsson Z-System that might be the phone’s gaming platform.
We’re looking at either a late 2024 or 2024 launch date. All the leaked details and pictures are to be found in the source links below.
But What about game pricing? I understand that Angry Birds and God of War are on immensely different scales but free is a very hard price to compete with. Is this even real? Would you buy it? So many questions. My answers don’t matter, yours do.
