Just before Valentine’s day comes to an end, we’d like to show off something you guys might be interested in. Sony seems to have plans to unveil another device besides the Sirius phone at Mobile World Congress later this month. The leak came from ViziLeaks, which somehow managed to get a first look of the phone and according to them, the device is classified as mid-ranged. In other words, it won’t be a flagship but instead, will compete with phones like the Moto G released late last year. The specs tweeted by them are as follows: 8 GB of internal storage (SD card expandability is unknown), 8 MP camera, LTE connectivity and 1 GB RAM all under a 4.8-inch screen.
Here, the Xperia Z1 is shown to be on top of the Xperia G which has received minor design changes like the camera moving to the centre. It also appears to be marginally smaller than the Z1 but that’s as much as we can deduce with these pictures.
In terms of raw performance, I think I might have found some detailed SoC information and benchmarks done on GFXBench.com with the codename D5103. It seems to be a 720p phone running Android 4.4.1 KitKat and the SoC inside is the Qualcomm MSM8226, popularly known as the Snapdragon 400. This is the same SoC that powers the Moto G. The only difference is that here it’s overclocked by 200 MHz, giving the Sony a slight edge. The GPU is the same Adreno 305, which is known to perform just fine on 720p phones.
So one can only dream Sony follows in Motorola’s footsteps, and releases this phone at a reasonably low off-contract price. Other than that, there’s not much else we know until Sony’s event at MWC starting February 24th.
