Samsung’s Unpacked event next month will definitely be an important one for the company as it’s not just about smartphones anymore. Sure the Galaxy Note 4 is going to be a beast of a phone, but smartwatches are becoming another money bucket for several companies besides Samsung such as LG, Motorola, ASUS and possibly Apple.
According to SamMobile, Samsung may be finalizing a standalong SIM-enabled smartwatch reportedly known as the Gear Solo to be launched with the Galaxy Note 4. It wasn’t mentioned if this was an Android Wear or Tizen powered smartwatch but I’m going to be placing my bet on Tizen since Android Wear does not have support for SIMs and because Samsung has spent so much R&D on Tizen it would only make sense to use the platform going forward.
Besides that, SamMobile also mentioned Samsung developing a circular smartwatch similar to the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R (round) but it probably won’t be ready until months after the launch of the Galaxy Note 4.
The event is scheduled for Sept. 3rd, right before the start of IFA 2024.
