Google’s Next-Gen Pixel Might Launch with a Curved Display

Google might be taking inspiration from Samsung this year when it comes to its next-gen Pixel. According to a recent report coming out of Asia and relayed by Reuters, the Mountain View-based company is looking to make a $1.174 CAD million investment in order to secure a significant batch of curved OLED displays from LG Display.

So if LG Display accepts Google’s offer, we’re probably going to see the Pixel 2 sport a curved display very much like the newly announced Galaxy S8 (and the Galaxy S7 edge before that). LG Display hasn’t accepted the offer just yet and that might be because Apple also placed an order for 160 million curved OLED displays which are going to be used in the company’s next-gen iPhone product.

If LG Display declines, it’s quite probable the Pixel 2 will come with a flat display. Other companies to which Google might turn to for help, like Japan Display are scheduled to start mass producing curved OLED displays in 2024.

Google’s next-gen Pixel device is expected to make a debut in a few months with a waterproof body and quite possibly a Snapdragon 835 under the hood. Google might also opt for a edge-to-edge design with minimal bezels like the Galaxy S8 or LG G6.
