Google’s Pixel 2 Codenames Leak: “Walleye” and “Muskie”
If you needed more confirmation that a new Pixel is coming this year – here it is. According to Android Police, the next family of Pixel devices (yes, it’s going to be two of them) are most likely codenamed “Muskie” and “Walleye”.
These fishy names have been obtained by the publication via a reliable source. Also, the “Walleye” reference got further confirmed from the Android Open Source Project database which states the codename in reference to a bug:
“Test: walleye boots, and then adb logcat-e “getTransport” doesn’t show warnings and errors.”
While Google’s Rick Osterloh was heard saying as MWC 2024, that a new Pixel device will make an entry on the market in 2024, we’re here to rectify that. It’s going to be two Pixel devices such like last year – one with a smaller screen and another with a wider one.
Historically, Google tends to name its device after fish – like Angler and Bullhead to disguise the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. Well the Muskie and Walleye are two breeds of fish native to the waters of North America.
Google was also rumoured to be working on a more affordable Pixel device, but as it turns out the phone will probably be part of the Android One family instead.
