Meant to share this one a while back, but I thought it was kind of neat!
Drew Curtis: How I beat a patent troll
Okay, on to the cases…
First, the absurd:
Apple wants U.S. district court to obscure Samsung logo on video display for jurors
Say what? Apparently the fact that any visual evidence might be displayed on the horrid offender is such a problem to Apple that they are asking for them to remove the name brand on the equipment. It’s like in the old days that any TV had to have the brand name removed (but you still knew what it was), or on some shows they blur the tshirts of passerbys… heh.
Apparently FOSS is somewhat understanding when he says: ”it can show to jurors that Samsung actually contributes technology to the U.S. government”. Sounds like hooey to me.
and with some judge humour (I call it humour, he may call it frustration)
Judge Posner scolds Apple’s lawyers: ‘I’ve had my fill of frivolous filings by Apple’
Well said, sir; well said.
then there’s the ‘last ploy move …
Nokia sues HTC, Viewsonic, RIM for patent infringement
So it’s not just Apple vs. __X___, but Nokia wants in on it too. Do you think they were really concerned about this issue a year or so ago, or is it that they’ve hitched their star to the MS and WP brands and that marketshare has fairly plummeted?
You be the ju… err… share your thoughts on this one.

Apple Loses Another Patent Infringement Claim, This Time Surrendering Victory To Motorola
I missed this lawsuit that Apple filed… apparently they tried to extend the reach of the ‘finger swipe’ patent to an ‘area tap’ that Motorola uses…
ye gods
Thankfully it got the thumbs down. “Apple contends that the finger swipe is equivalent to a finger tap because the two gestures are interchangeable. If consumers distinguish between the two, they are not interchangeable”.
Moto fights back against some crazy Microsoft injunction
Motorola appeals Microsoft‘s temporary restraining order to the Ninth Circuit
Doesn’t have a WHOLE LOT with Android, but an interesting look into what’s happening with the legal battles.
So, MS got scared how Moto was winning some cases in Europe and shutting down some push servers, etc… so they moved to have Moto banned from bringing that suit to North America. Well, as absurd as it sounded it go okay’d. Now Moto is trying to appeal that decision.
and lastly, the ‘end all, be all’ Android suit
Oracle-Google jury verdict postponed until Monday
There’s just so much going on with this case, it gets hard to try to understand what’s going on… but it looks like Monday morning we may have some answers finally.
It’s been a real back and forth, and depending on the blog you read it could be an even split.
