Every big Android manufacturer has something to show off at MWC this year and here’s what LG had in store. Their two big announcements were the Optimus 3D and the Optimus Pad. Here’s a quick spec breakdown:
Optimus 3D: 4.3-inch 3D LCD display, dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4 processor and a 5MP dual-lens camera that can record 3D in HD. No glasses are required to view 3D on the screen and it works with many UI components, videos and games. This all runs on Android 2.2 Froyo with LG’s custom skin UI but Gingerbread will be arriving at some point. The camera can also shoot in 3D and display them on the device itself or on a bigger display connected via HDMI. LG also says the Otpimus 3D has “four times more video decoders than competing designs.” meaning your video files are much more likely to play without any need for conversion.
Optimus Pad: 8.9-inch, 1280×768 resolution display running stock Android 3.0 Honeycomb, Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and a 5MP rear camera with a 2MP front-facing camera. The back camera is capable of shooting in 3D in HD. The display however is a standard 2D that has the ability to show 3D given that you’re willing to put on a pair of 3D glasses. This device is also known as the LG G-Slate in the U.S. and will be released for T-Mobile sometime this Spring.
Interesting move on LG’s part to be pushing 3D so aggressively . I can’t imagine too many people using the Optimus Pad for its 3D so it’s strange to me that they decided a 3D camera would be a good idea on the tablet. We’ll let you know if we hear anything regarding a Canadian release.
