If you’re an owner of an LG G3, you may have wondered when that Android 5.1 update will drop. Well, there’s good news and bad news.
According to LG Greece, LG’s previous flagship smartphone will not be receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, despite being a relatively small change from 5.0. Samsung has proudly updated its GS6 series to 5.1.1 in some regions and the LG G4 is already running Android 5.1 so I’m not sure what the problem here is. However, they have also stated that the phone will instead get updated to the final build of Android M, whatever codename M ends up to be.
During Google I/O, it was mentioned that Android M will be released in Q3 of this year and considering how long it usually takes LG to update devices, you may very well not see a update until the end of the year assuming LG doesn’t change its stance on this.
I’m hopeful the LG G3 in North America does end up getting Android 5.1 soon.
