HTC Desire Update Weeks Away
First HTC releases the statement:
“Our engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience you’ve come to expect from our phones. However, we’re sorry to announce that we’ve been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire. We’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you.”
They quickly retracted the statement with the following:
“Contrary to what we said earlier, we are going to bring Gingerbread to HTC Desire.”
The plan was to cut some apps, perhaps slim down HTC’s sense UI a bit. This was all speculation and even today we still don’t know exactly how they plan to make it all fit.
Not long after HTC mentioned that the testing of Gingerbread on the HTC Desire was going smoothly and if everything panned out according to plan, we would see the 2.3 Gingerbread update by the end of July. The only thing we can do at this point is keep our fingers crossed and hope HTC didn’t chop this phone to bits trying to cram it all together like tetris to make it fit.
