Remember the Google Glass smart glasses? While the wearable failed as a consumer product, it did carve a niche for itself into the enterprise segment where apparently it’s quite successful.
Now BlackBerry is following in Google’s footsteps. The Canadian company has taken an interest in the “enterprise of things” ecosystem, and as a result, BlackBerry has entered a partnership with New York-based company Vuzix to provide the software on a pair smart glasses called the Vuzix M300. The Canadian brand will be supplying the Unified Endpoint management (UEM) software, while Vuzix is in charge of developing the hardware.
Naturally, BlackBerry has designed the smart glasses’ software with security in mind, while also making sure IT administrators can easily access and manage the data.
The two companies haven’t shared a lot of information about the Vuzix M300 just yet, but they did release a product video teaser. Judging by the clip, the Vuzix M300 smart glasses will work similarly to the Google Glass. For example, they will enable professionals to see the needed information in front of them, thus freeing their hands and allowing them to better handle the task at hand.
The Vuzix M300 will be showcased at the BlackBerry Security Summit 2024 which will be hosted in London between 24 and 25 October and then in New York on 14-15 November.
