Google has recently posted their Android Distribution numbers for September. For those unfamiliar with this monthly phenomenon, these numbers are updated by Google at roughly the start of every month for developers to look at so they can generalize what version of Android their potential install base is running and act upon it.
The two versions Android Lollipop now account for 21% of devices connected to Google Play, up 2.9% from last month. Android 5.1 grew the most, as it now sits at 5.1%. KitKat still remains to be the largest of them all, however it saw a tiny 0.1% decrease. Jellybean decreased the most while Froyo, Gingerbread and ICS continue their slow death.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expected to be releasing later this month.
