Android 8.0 Oreo Rolling Out for OnePlus 3 Closed Beta Channel
Google unveiled Android 8.0 last month and now the first devices are starting to get it. Well sort of.
Folks enrolled in the OnePlus 3 closed beta group have started to receive the Android 8.0 update. But according to the Android Police who first reported the news, the build is pretty raw which means not all features will work at first.
Case in point, we’re told there’s no NFC and Wi-Fi is spotty. Bluetooth connectivity isn’t great either. For its part, OnePlus has warned users this will be the case.
The report also states that OnePlus is looking to release a stable Android O build for the OnePlus 3, 3T and 5 in the closed beta group by mid-September, while a public release is expected to roll out by the end of the month. That’s an ambitious plan indeed.
Not many other companies have made similar promises. Only HTC announced on Twitter its U11 flagship should receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update in Q4 2024. If OnePlus will manage to keep its promise (which is a bit unlikely, really), the Chinese company will be among the first to push the update for its flagship products.
Don’t forget that Android 8.0 is the last major update the OnePlus 3/3T will be getting.
