Well that was surprisingly quick. Just yesterday we shared news of Sony’s 5.1.1 build for the Xperia Z2 and Z3 being certified and now the company has stated that they have released the update.
The update itself has been released for the following phones and tablets: Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. After modifying Google’s AOSP base of Android 5.1.1, Sony has added their own customizations and optimizations to the build which result in the following changes:
- Increased customisation options – so you have even more control over the way volume, silent modes and your alerts function
- Brand new LinkedIn integration – be more productive with intuitive contact synchronisation in your Calendar
- Camera improvements – with faster, more accurate Superior Auto Mode focus for great images, regardless of conditions
- Enhanced enterprise support – with our latest Xperia in Business features for work
- SmartWear integration – selfie snapping made that bit easier, with SmartWatch 3 as a remote shutter button
Android 5.1.1 also fixes the memory leak issue that was plaguing many Android phones running Android 5.0.
The update will be rolled out over the coming weeks and we’ll update this post once it becomes available to download on Canadian carriers.
