Sony’s Xperia S Available in Canada April 17, Possibly Unlocked?

The Xperia S will launch in Canada April 17th, but those who wish to get theirs hands on the new phone will have to do head down to the Sony Store and not their local carrier. Prices on the exciting new Android hasn’t been released yet, but from the sound of things, the handset looks to get a fully unsubsidized price tag. There has also been a lot of speculation surrounding the sales of  the Xperia S specifically in the Sony store, being you would be buying the phone full out, would it be unlocked like the Apple store does with their iPhones?

There has been no confirmation on this yet, but it’s defiantly something that’s being asked around the interweb.

Key Features for Xperia S:

  • 4.3? Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine with HD resolution screen (1280 x 720), as well as front (720p) and back (1080p) cameras for HD recording.
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor for fast browsing and content download, which can be stored on the internal 32GB flash storage.
  • 12MP rear-facing camera with Sony Exmor R™ for mobile.
  • NFC enabled to access growing range of NFC applications.
  • With HD sharing through DLNA, HDMI and using BRAVIA Sync for controlling your Xperia S with your TV remote control when connected to the TV, Xperia S delivers a full HD experience on TV.
  • Pre loaded with Gingerbread 2.3 with ICS to follow later.

I personally have never owned a Sony Android before, but this phone sparks my curiosity, but then I snap back to reality and realize it’s still just a dual core which brings me to a question. Is it a good idea to still be releasing dual core devices into the mobile world, or has the mass market been put on standby for quad cores that lay just around the corner?
