UK Galaxy S owners seeing 2.3.5
So my phone has been having some issue lately. Really has me debating this whole rooting/flashing ROM thing again.
I see CM7.1 is up to 2.3.7. My “captivate” is sitting oh-so-nicely on 2.3.3, and that last +.0.4 is tempting, but I am still gun-shy on trying it [bricked an old treo and a magic back in the day]. So, sometimes it’s just as easy for me to rest on my laurels and just use what the manufacturer gave me. Plus I’m afraid of losing all my mileage, expense, AngryBird data. [I know there should be ways to back it up, but I haven’t fully researched]
I have some high hopes for ICS eventually making it to my phone, but definitely not officially, so I started my research on how to flash/ROM and some day will just have to pull the pin and start doing it so I can get comfortable with it for when ICS is ready.
I had just gotten used to the fact that official releases were done for my phone… then something happened in the UK.
The i9000 version just got an update to 2.3.5. Which is +.0.2 more than mine. What’s the difference? From what I can tell, not much [2.3.4 added video google talk, and .5 fix a bluetooth bug on the Galaxy S line..] … wait it fixes a bug? Probably that’s the reason I notice my phone having a difficult time with WiFi fixing when I get home after having had the BT headsets on. Hrmm…
Well, with the last few releases from Samsung’s firmware, it seemed to hit the UK first, then rolls out to Canada after [and happily before it goes to south of the border]. What I can’t find out is whether it’s the first Ging update for the i9000 or did they get 2.3.3 THEN get 2.3.5 as well?
Will we see this update here in Canada? Doubtful… our carriers aren’t often too supportive for updates. Despite the improvements, the effort to assign one person on staff to update a test phone, and then test it is too much … they should just pay somebody from XDA (like Sammy did with Kondik) … they’ve shown it works.
Anyways, that’s what excited me recently… maybe some slightly new ‘official’ breath into my rapidly aging phone. Maybe Tom will cut me a good price on his S2LTE for Rogers when he gets his Galaxy Nexus. *_*
