Goodbye to Summer CONTEST [giveaway]

The Goodbye to Summer giveaway was a Canada-only contest that offered two prizes: a Telus HTC One X phone and a Hipstreet Equinox 2 tablet. The contest is closed, and this page keeps the rules and the story behind it as an archive.

Why the contest had this name

The organizers first planned a back-to-school theme. That idea was dropped because it left out readers who were not heading back to class, and the name changed to one that suits everybody. Autumn is the season when Canadians put away the patio furniture, close up the cottage, and plan for winter, so the theme was getting organized for the months ahead.

The two prizes

• HTC One X on Telus. The phone was supplied by HTC. It was well regarded at the time and was the handset the site’s editor said they would consider swapping a Nexus for.
• Hipstreet Equinox 2 tablet. The tablet came as a donation from Hipstreet and had been reviewed on the site shortly before the contest.

How entry worked

Entrants shared the contest page on a public social media profile and then completed a form to confirm the share. Entries were checked by hand, so private or hidden shares did not count. Duplicate entries were removed.

Eligibility and draw

Only residents of Canada could win, and prizes shipped only to Canadian addresses. One person could not win both prizes. A draw on Friday, September 14 picked the phone winner first and the tablet winner second. Winners were contacted directly and had until Monday, September 17 to reply before another name was drawn.
