How the HTC and Hipstreet Giveaway Winners Were Picked
Archive note. This story reflects what was known when it was first covered. Prices, availability and carrier offers are historical. For the current picture, start with the topic guides.
How the draw worked
- The author went through the whole entry list and checked that each entry was legitimate.
- Every entrant was assigned a random number.
- The list was sorted by those numbers.
- A computer then picked two random numbers, and the entrants at those positions won the phone and the tablet.
The author admitted the method was complicated, but said the aim was to add as much randomness as possible.
Eligibility and the re-draw rule
The winners still had to be confirmed as having Canadian addresses. If a winner did not have one, or did not get in touch by the Monday deadline, the author said a new draw would take place. The winners’ names are not repeated here.
The sponsors
The prizes came from HTC, which supplied the phone, and Hipstreet, which supplied the tablet. The author thanked both companies and everyone who entered.
Status today
The contest has closed and no entries are being accepted. The prizes were products of that era.
