Samsung Launches ATIV Q: Windows And Android On A Single Tablet
Right out off Samsung’s Premiere 2024 in London came some pretty big announcements. One that caught our attention was the presentation of the Samgung Ativ Q tablet, a dual OS, Intel powered tablet with some notable features.
The tablet itself is a 13.3 inch hybrid, with a respectable .54 inch thick and 2.8 pounds. The reason for the “respectable” 0.54 inch of thickness is the tablet’s keyboard, hidden under the display. The display itself swivels to reveal the keyboard and can be adjusted to various angles depending on the use.
This hybrid device features a magnificent 13.3 inch screen with a resolution of 3200×1800 (275ppi) powered by an Intel Haswell CPU, that manages to provide an amazing (if proven real) 9 hours of battery life. Provided in the package is also the S Pen stylus that was introduced with the Galaxy Note.
The Ativ Q runs both Window 8 and Android simultaneously, which means you don’t need to power down the device and boot again to make the switch. The tablet has a switching button that allows for seamless changing between OS. Additionally, to further facilitate the integration of both OS, Android apps can be easily pinned to the Windows 8 start screen and launched with a simple touch.
With several dual OS devices on the horizon is this the path future tablets should follow? Or a pricey gimmick that shouldn’t stick? Hope to hear from you in the comments below and be sure to get updates on this device as we get them.
