Rumour: HTC Made Nexus To Be A 9″ Tablet?

Volantis HTC Nexus

There’s been a rumour floating around for quite some time now that HTC was pegged by Google to manufacture the next Nexus tablet.  There’s been all sorts of speculation as to what size the new tablet might be with rumours of a 7″, 8″ and 10″ device all surfacing at some point.  Well according to the latest rumour, all of those sizes have been wrong so far as the new HTC made Nexus tablet is said to come in at 9″.

Android Police, who broke this latest story, state that they are very “confident in their information” and go so far as to say that the “information won’t be treated as a rumour.”  Here’s a full spec list for the alleged upcoming tablet:

  • 8.9″ Display at 2048×1440 (281ppi)
  • NVIDIA Logan 64-bit processor (Tegra K1)
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16/32GB internal storage
  • 8MP OIS main camera, 3MP front facing camera
  • Aluminum zero-gap construction
  • Stereo front-facing speakers
  • 8.91″x5.98″x0.31″ body (that’s 22.63×15.19×0.79cm)
  • 418g (or 427g with LTE) (that’s 14.74/15.1 ounces)

As you’d expect from a Nexus tablet, this one packs some pretty cutting edge specs.  The image of the device, which may just be a place holder, shows a tablet that looks a whole lot like a larger more squared Nexus 5.  My guess is that the image is just a place holder so I wouldn’t put too much weight in it.

In addition to these specs and the image, Android Police also got a hold on some tentative pricing.  The new Nexus tablet will allegedly start at $399 for the 16GB model, $499 for a 32GB model and over $600 for an LTE equipped device.  Those prices sure don’t sound very Nexus-esque but that can always change.

While I’m definitely stoked about the possibility of an HTC made Nexus again, I sure hope those prices come down some.  Specs look good but a Nexus always wows on paper and on price.  Hopefully we’ll get some more information during Google I/O.
