OnePlus One With CyanogenMod: Hands-On and Canadian Price
The phone
OnePlus announced the phone a week before the event. Its hardware was impressive for the price. The unit in the video ran a custom version of CyanogenMod based on Android 4.4, instead of the usual maker skin.
What the price meant in Canada
The $300 US price was seen as aggressive for a phone like this. OnePlus said on its Facebook page that Canadians could get the phone for under US$400 through its US site, listing it at US$399. These prices are historical.
The promotion
The company also ran a marketing campaign that offered a phone for $1 if you smashed your old smartphone. The author called it clever and wondered whether anyone would actually do it.
