Galaxy GT-i9260 Is Not A Nexus Device
I’m really not sure how to feel about this news, but here it is. The mysterious Samsung device with the ID GT-i9260 was long thought to be a sequel to the Galaxy Nexus. And in a lot of ways it made sense. It had almost identical dimensions to the original Galaxy Nexus with some improved specs. It fit in with the rumour that there would be multiple Nexus devices coming out this year. And the ID name just seemed to fit well.
Well it turns out that the device is not a new Nexus but rather the Galaxy Premier. The name is not new as it’s been floating around with the device for a while now but a leaked picture of the device has confirmed that it’s not in the Nexus family. Rather, it looks to be the middle child of the Galaxy S III family, sporting the same design but a screen size in between the SIII and the Mini. Here’s the speculated specs:
- 4.65″ 720p Display
- 1.5 GHz Dual-Core Processor
- 1GB Ram
- 16GB Internal Storage
- microSD Card Slot
- 8MP Camera
- 2MP Front-Facing Camera
- NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Dual-Band WiFi
It looks to be a pretty solid device that will probably come with a smaller price tag than it’s bigger brother. The only reason I’m on the fence with this news is that it’s adding to the possibility that there won’t be multiple Nexus devices this year. We know the LG Nexus is real. But of the other three, Samsung, Sony, and HTC, the Samsung version of the Nexus appeared to have the most weight. The HTC 5″ Nexus is still a possibility but I’ve had doubts for a while that it would indeed be a Nexus device. And as for Sony, not much has come out at all about any possible Nexus device, although I, like many, would love to see some of that Sony styling mixed with good hardware and software.
