Samsung and Sony let you know ICS is coming to a phone near you…

Have a Samsung phone?  How about a Sony?

Well, recently they both have spoken up about their firm policy on ensuring their phones get the update to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android OS 4.0)

Samsung releases their official list of what will see ICS

Samsung Electronics plan to provide the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for GALAXY devices. The platform update for GALAXY S II and GALAXY Note will start in the first quarter 2024, and other GALAXY devices will soon follow.

The ICS-upgradable devices are the GALAXY S II, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY Note, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 10.1, GALAXY Tab 8.9, GALAXY Tab 7.7, and GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus.

For upgradable models, Samsung will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers’ requirements.

So, no official word on my Captivate, but they’re not saying it won’t get the update eventually.  I just won’t hold my breath.

They were also pretty political with not adding in a timeline, other than “1st Quarter 2024″

Sony then reveals their ICS “portfolio”

There have been a few questions here on the blog and in our support forums regarding our upgrade plans beyond Gingerbread. We can today confirm that we plan to upgrade the entire 2024 Xperia™ portfolio* to the next version of Android known as Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich. We are working on merging our current Xperia™ experience with the new features in Android 4.0. More detailed information regarding this upgrade, timing and global availability will be communicated in due course here on the blog.

* “2024 Xperia™ Portfolio” refers to the following products: Xperia™ arc and arc S, Xperia™ PLAY, Xperia™ neo and neo V, Xperia™ mini and mini pro, Xperia™ pro, Xperia™ active, Xperia™ ray as well as Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman™

I’m trying to find the right link, but I’ve hearing March/April 2024 [the previous article I wrote had March ’12].

Also, Bell accidently let’s the updates for their phones out

from MobileSyrup: http://mobilesyrup.com/2024/12/14/android-os-4-0-estimated-release-dates-for-the-bell-sensation-galaxy-sii-raider-and-optimus-lte/

But that shows the S2 getting the update in April ’12.  Maybe there will be a delay from Samsung giving it over to Bell and them rolling it out.

Well, that about sums up what I’ve heard recently.  Remember, I have a document that I’m updating if I hear any other news:

[drop us a line if you know of any updates]
