LG Aiming For Late Q1 2024 For G2 KitKat Update
In terms of KitKat updates, basically every flagship has been spoken for either officially or through leaks. The only big player that hadn’t really given any indications as to when their flagship device would get the KitKat update is LG. Well it seems we now have a time frame for that update.
According to MobileSyrup, LG has told them that the LG G2 would begin to get its KitKat update sometime in late Q1 of 2024 (or sometime in March in layman’s terms). This would put LG pretty far behind the competition as all the other major players in the Android world are aiming to have their KitKat updates rolling out to their respective flagship devices in January 2024.
Definitely not the best news for those of you rocking G2′s but at least they’ve given a time frame. The really odd thing about this is that LG would have likely had a chance to play around with KitKat before the competition since they worked with Google on the Nexus 5. Yet that extra time with the new OS (assuming they actually do get some sort of early advantage) is not translating into a quicker update for their own device.
In regards to their previous flagship, the Optimus G, LG did not comment as to if or when that device would get updated. That device is, sadly, still stuck in the Android 4.1.2 world. I really enjoyed the G2 and I think it’s an amazing device with incredible battery life but software delays like this are undoubtedly part of the reason their devices are often overlooked.
