CyanogenMod 9 Nightly Adds Navigation Bar Customization

By Android in Canada Editorial TeamUpdated

What the feature did

The navigation bar is the strip of on-screen buttons at the bottom of an Ice Cream Sandwich phone. With this addition, a user could change its layout in a modest way. The standard three buttons stayed, though their order could be changed.

Two spots to fill

Since the three standard buttons took up their places, two positions were left for custom use. The author had not yet decided what to put there and invited readers to choose their own favourites.

About the build

  • It was a nightly build, meaning a frequent snapshot of the project as it stood on a given day.
  • The feature was noted in the nightly for the Galaxy Nexus, device name maguro.
  • A newer build had since appeared. The author was running the one dated 0519 at the time.

Cautions

Nightly builds are works in progress and can be unstable. Installing a custom ROM is done at your own risk, and this page does not point to downloads. CyanogenMod is no longer developed, so this is a historical note.
