Google Docs app now has a (better) editor… and much more!
Okay, now this is something I’ve talked about for some time.
…back in last April I had pleaded for Google to make a Docs app (look near the bottom).
…I cheered when they built one
…and then they made it better
…then they updated it to have better reading
So I’ve been talking about GDocs for a while, and I’m a big advocate for it, as you can tell as I tend to use it heavily in these articles with spreadsheets embedded and forms.
Today (when I wrote this) they went leaps ahead as they’ve included a better Docs editor now. My dream app is slowly coming true. I might have some real proof to get my office to “go Google”. (aside: have you seen those horrible Googlighting ads that MS is putting out… despicable)
The update now allows for your phone and tablet to have a Rich Text editor for your Documents. Note; it’s just documents. Spreadsheets still have the shoddy editor where you edit items row by row… that aside it’s still a great update. I’ve noticed that on the phone, when you open a Doc it goes straight into editing mode, whereas the tablet version you still have the ‘enhanced’ reading mode, first and then you have to enter editing mode.
Bonus icing on the cake in this update is the fact that you can now have real-time viewing of your collaborators doing editing as well. THIS IS WHAT CLOUD IS ABOUT. I don’t know why everybody is not using Docs in this way. This is the perfect scenario for team work. Watch the video below to see it in action (perfect example I think… I pretty much did this when building my best friend’s best man speech at his wedding, but with my old Palm Pilot). Below that I have some screenshots.
But, I should have said enough… you should probably stop reading and just go GET THE UPDATE now. If you don’t have Google Docs already… tell me why you think this great product isn’t for you. I would like to hear an argument against Google Docs, because I just don’t think there is.
