Google To Make Android Paid Apps Announcement Next Week?
With the launch of Android devices across many of the Canadian wireless carriers, many Canadians have adopted an Android device.
Over the last year, there have been a lot of positive and negative experiences regarding Android devices in Canada. Some of the positives are a simple, open source OS and that the Android OS has been picked up by many mobile manufacturers such as Motorola, LG, Samsung, and of course HTC.
Some of the negative experiences include software updates and hardware limitations. However the largest negative Android experience in Canada is likely the inability to purchase paid apps from the Android Market.
The Android Market has over 30,000 apps available to download, and while Canadians can download free apps, they have no access to paid apps. Well, Google may make paid apps available to Canadians as soon as next week!
On the topic of the Android Market in Canada, Google Canada spokesperson Wendy Rozeluk says,
“There are many factors that come into play to make sure the selling and purchasing processes run smoothly. It takes time to bring support to more countries, which is something we are working hard to do”.
The Montreal Gazette further states that Google is “working on the problem and hopes to make an announcement next week.”
This is very exciting news for both Canadian Android owners and Android app developers. It is also very exciting to think about the large variety of both new and existing paid apps that will be available to Canadians from the Android Market.
