So, I’m merrily playing with my tablet. I’m having some renewed love affair with it since it got updated to the ICS firmware.
It’s still glitchy mind you, but that’s another post for another day.
When yesterday I realized that the icon for a plugged in SD card wasn’t visible. Odd. After trying to put it in my old phone, the Note, a reader, a reader into my camera… nothing seems to register. And then I’ve come to realize, another one bites the dust. And it’s totally ironic… seriously, that moments later I see the post from DroidLife about asking if you’d miss SD slots. Freaky
I’ve not had good luck with microSD cards.
Probably why I love cloud storage so much.
Funny, using SD cards for my cameras, or even CF cards, I’ve never run into this issue. But since my HTC Magic, I’ve had to adopt microSD, and I’ve had a card fail on that. Which prompted me to believe that the phone caused the issue. Eventually it caused me to update to the Captivate… then I lost 2 more cards on that phone. That’s when I got seriously into cloud storage as I lost quite a few photos at that time. I want to say I’ve lost another or 2, but I can’t recall the exact incidences as I’ve had to pick up quite a few (oh, my wife’s phone would give her error messages quite a lot too).
When the Galaxy Nexus came out people were outraged that 16GB would be all you would have to deal with (what is this … Apple?).

I hmm’d and haww’d a fair bit before buying it as I always hate to be limited to internal storage only, but in the end bought the phone. I haven’t really noticed an issue with not having enough space on the device. But I’ve also been cognizant of that fact and have made it a monthly chore to wipe out the phone of photos and unnecessary files and I don’t keep music on it, except for Google Music and choosing some playlists for offline use.
I just have not wanted to become reliant on some external storage which could fail. (I bought a 500GB drive that after 6 months started to make click-y noises so I have stopped using it entirely.)
Now, some have pointed out that maybe it’s the brand of the card I purchase, but I want to believe that I’ve looked at more than one brand; so I’m unsure what the variable could be. For now, I’m just going to be okay that my device doesn’t need an microSD card, and be happy with the fact that should I need, most of my files are in the cloud and WiFi is readily available. Honestly, I think microSD are the new floppy disk.
