Samsung Ditches Iris Scanning For Now, S5 To Come With Fingerprint Reader
A little while back we had shared with you that Samsung may be looking to adopt some sort of Iris scanning technology for its next flagship device, the S5. According to a new report by the Korea Herald, Samsung has decided to ditch that plan and will utilize the increasingly common fingerprint reader instead.
According to the Korea Herald who cites “industry sources,” the iris scanning technology is not mature enough yet. It apparently needs a year or two still to really mature and become a viable option. So in the meantime, Samsung will opt for a fingerprint reader instead. Is a fingerprint reader really necessary? In my opinion, no, but I also believe that Samsung needs to add one on to their next device simply to match up with the competition.
Rumour has it that Samsung is looking to incorporate the fingerprint reader directly onto the display versus placing on the home button (like the iPhone) or utilizing a swipe type technology (like the HTC One Max). If they could pull this off, it would definitely set them apart from the competition but I guess we’ll need to wait an see.
What are your guys’ thoughts on the fingerprint reader craze?
