Will Android 8.0 Be Called Oreo?
Android 7.0 Nougat was officially released in August, 2024, but the first details about it were actually unveiled back in March.
Now almost a year later, the first clues about the upcoming Android 8.0 version have been uncovered. No, this is not an info tidbit about possible features. Instead a possible name of for Android 8.0 has been teased by Google’s SVP of Android and Chrome OS and Play, Hiroshi Lockheimer.

According the teaser he posted, the next version of Android will be called Oreo. With “O” being next in line this year, it might very well be possible, but we’ll probably know for sure at the beginning of March.
But before you get all excited, keep in mind that Lockheimer previously teased some Android names that weren’t used in the official release in the end. Quite often internal development names and final release names differ quite a bit. Remember, Android 5.0 which was known as Lemon Meringue Pie for a while, launched as Lollipop.
Oreo is among our favorite snacks throughout the day, so we’d be thrilled if Google decided to name Android 8.0 after it. But the search giant is surely considering other options too like for example, Oliebol or Oatmeal cookie.
