VLC For Android Getting Chromecast Support

Chromecast

Just when you thought the Chromecast couldn’t get any better, think again.

In case you need a refresher, the Chromecast is really just a $39 WiFi-enabled HDMI dongle that connects to your TV and waits for users to “cast” content to the device through many supported apps like YouTube, Plex and Netflix. There are several 3rd party apps available on the Play Store that take advantage of APIs supplied by the Chromecast SDK.

Now, according to GigaOm, they have received word from VLC developers about support for casting to the Chromecast from VLC for Android. They briefly stated that once VLC for iOS ships with Chromecast support, the Android version won’t take that much longer. Windows, OS X and Linux versions of the media player are also slated to get support, but it’s more complicated as there’s no native support on those platforms.
