Watch Out Siri, Cortana! Nokia’s ‘Viki’ Virtual Assistant Coming
Over the weekend, the company that holds the rights to the Nokia brand now – HMD unveiled the first comeback Nokia smartphone. It’s called the Nokia 6 and it’s a mid-range affair coming with a 5.5-inch FHD display and a Snapdragon 430 under the hood.
It appears this phone will exclusively be sold in China, but according to recent information HMD is looking to unveil 6 to 7 Nokia phones this year.
Among this crop, there’s certainly going to be some high-end models. And like a recently unearthed EU trademark seems to suggest, these upcoming premium phones will come bundling Nokia’s own virtual assistant solution called Viki.
It’s worth noting that Nokia Solution and Networks and not HMD filed for the patent. Anyway, it’s no surprise Nokia will be offering the services of a virtual assistant in its upcoming flagships. After all virtual assistants are basically everywhere.
Apple uses Siri, Microsoft has Cortana, Google’s solution is called Google Now and Samsung is soon going to debut Bixby in the Galaxy S8 (but the Note8 will get it too). So Nokia is soon going to join the bandwagon.
We believe that the virtual assistant will be a feature to be found only on Nokia’s upcoming high-end phones, so we don’t expect the Nokia 6 to get Viki treatment.
